Dissapointment in the Mountains

This weekend I decided to head up to Vail and Beaver Creek to hopefully shoot some photos with some friends in the Beaver Creek Terrain Park. However, I awoke on Saturday morning to 11" new at BC and since I am still not allowed to ski yet, a terrain park shoot and taking photos at all was out of the question. I was also planning on doing a Night time/dawn shoot for my brother, Sylvan Ellefson, who is a professional Cross Country Skier. Because of him winning a race in Sun Valley, ID, he had to change his flight, missing the Packers own in the Super Bowl and our shoot. I did happen to take these photos of Avon, CO roundabout and town while i wasn't skiing. Look for more photos of skiing soon as I will be back on the hill soon! Go Packers!

Telemark Skier Magazine Shoot at Breckenridge

Last Wednesday I bared the -20 deg wind chills at Breckenridge to hook up with some old friends to shoot some photos in Park Lane. Josh Madsen, one of the editors of Telemark Skier Magazine, called me up to shoot some photos that they could post up on their website and social media outlets. He brought Alex Paul and Dylan Garner to get some shots on the video camera, as well as in front of my lens. Here are some of the B-Roll photos as the A grade photos I will be saving for my submission to the magazine later in the year. All blog posts from now on will be that way. If i am planning on making a submission to a specific magazine, the best photos won't be put up, but I will still post quality images up no matter what.

Hey quick post here,
This weekend at the Denver Convention Center in beautiful downtown Denver, CO the Snowsports Industry of America, or better know as SIA, had their trade show. Local pole company Sickstickz had a small booth to promote their new pole line and set up meetings with product info sessions for current and potential shop customers. Since I was helping them out all weekend, I was asked to take some photos that they could throw on their website to update all of their followers. Roaring Lion Energy kept us up an running all weekend so a big shout out to them.

Denver Big Air

Told you the posts would be more frequent now that I can walk.
Last night in Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver was the Denver Big Air. This was an event put on my multiple sponsors and the City of Denver to showcase freestyle skiing to the city. The 106 ft tall drop in ramp at 44 degrees sent the riders over a scaffolding jump covered by snow. I was requested by Sickstickz Ski Poles and my buddy Lucas Evans to cover the event so they could use my photos for promotion. Although Sickstickz did not have a team, many of their riders were on other teams in the event. The competition was team style, so 15 different ski brands rider's battled it out for the top spot. A couple weeks before the event I requested a media pass, but the organization putting it on would not grant me one because I do not have a registered business, nor do I work for one. I then elected that I would get decent photographs from the freestanding section of the viewing area. Boy was I wrong. With multiple tall fences, large trees, and tents blocking the view, I almost wish I would have kjelled out $25 for a friends pass (haha kjelled out..get it..ok not funny). But anyways I got stuck in one little place where I could get decent shots of the skiers. I hope you enjoy the shots of some friends and fellow athletes. Down Day

Hey,
Long time no blog post. I have had a bit of a rough sequence with the camera. I had been taking a plethora of photos with my 35mm film camera for my Photo 1 class which I grew to have a strong disliking for...no...hate for. So to say the least I needed a break from photos for a couple weeks. Then on December 5th I had the privilege of breaking my tibial plateau in my knee spinning off a rail and landing wrong which needed surgery with 5 screws connected to a large plate, an knee scope, and a cadaver skin graft to cover the incision. Crutches are not the ideal way of taking photos, hence the hiatus of photo blogging.

Anyways today I finally got to get out with my new Tamron 10-24mm 3.5/4.5f wide angle lens I recently acquired. My buddy Alex Bayer, teen sensation and star of previous blog posts, has been receiving some gear from Gnu Snowboards and needed some shots of him hitting the halfpipe at Copper Mountain Resort. However, due to the recent snowfall and winds picking up a myriad of snow into the air, the day was cut short and I ended up with only a few lifestyle shots. I guess that is how it goes sometimes being a snow sports photographer. We will have to wait for another day. Below is a snap shot of the X-Rays from my leg and the shots from today.
